The Final Round
On June 2nd, Sioux Falls voted. The top two candidates advance to a runoff. We are one of them. Here's what that means — and what comes next.
On the night of June 2nd, our campaign team gathered together and watched the results come in.
We made the runoff.
I've been sitting with those four words for a day now. What keeps coming back to me isn't the number. It's the people in that room. Hundreds of neighbors, friends, and first-time volunteers who showed up before anyone knew how this was going to go. People who knocked doors in the cold and showed up on Saturday mornings because they believed something was possible here.
Their belief is what got us to this runoff. And it is what is going to carry us across the finish line.
What the runoff actually means.
In Sioux Falls city elections, if no candidate earns a majority of votes, the top two advance to a runoff. That is exactly what happened on June 2nd.
It means this race is still going. It means there is still time to vote, and still time for your vote to matter.
Runoff elections are decided by turnout. Fewer people show up. Every single ballot counts more. If you voted on June 2nd, vote again on June 23rd. If you didn't vote on June 2nd, now is your chance.
What making the runoff proves.
This campaign has been 100% people powered from day one. Over 140 neighbors and friends showed up. We raised more than $28,000, almost entirely from individuals who gave what they could because they believed in something bigger than any one candidate.
Just people.
Making the runoff proves that a people-powered campaign can compete. It proves that the message we have been carrying — responsible growth, a vibrant community, equal opportunity for every neighborhood — landed with voters across this city. And it proves that Sioux Falls is paying close attention to who shows up, who listens, and who is actually fighting for them.

One thing to do right now.
Send a text to one person and tell them we made the runoff.
Not a mass message. Just one person who cares about this city and might not know the race is still on. That message might be exactly what gets them to the polls on June 23rd.
We have three weeks. Let's use every one of them.
It's always been our city, and now is our moment. Let's rise together. ☀️
