Paid for by Friends
You've seen that line at the bottom of every mailer and every yard sign: Paid for by Friends of Vince Danh. This weekend, every candidate in this race filed their official campaign finance disclosure with the City Clerk. I want to show you exactly what that line means — because when you look at all three reports side by side, the choice in this election comes into focus.
The numbers tell a story.
Since we launched in September 2025, we've raised a total of $28,075.11.
It started with $10,293.12 in the fall — built on contributions from people who believed before there was anything to believe in yet. This spring added $17,781.99 more. Fundraising dinners at BibiSol and Bread & Circus. A get-out-the-vote party at DaDa. Room after room of neighbors, friends, and first-time donors who showed up because they cared about this city.
More than 120 unique donors. Zero dollars from PACs, corporations, or special interest groups. Every dollar came from a real person who made a real choice.
When you look at the other reports filed this weekend, the contrast is plain.
One campaign in this race has zero individual donors. It is funded entirely by a $15,000 personal loan the candidate wrote to themselves.
Another received a $7,500 check from a special interest PAC, alongside maximum contributions from business executives and developers.
I'll let those facts speak for themselves. I believe who funds your campaign tells you something about who you'll listen to. Ours has been funded by the regular people who live here. They might not regularly make headlines, but they’re the spirit of our campaign.
Update — May 22, 2026
One thing has changed since this post was published. The Sioux Empire Friends of Affordable Housing PAC, affiliated with the Sioux Empire Home Builders Association, has made a contribution to our campaign. In the spirit of the transparency this post was built on, I wanted you to know. A full post on their endorsement is coming soon.
How we spent it matters too.
I believe how a candidate manages campaign money says something about how they'll manage yours at City Hall.
More than 77 cents of every dollar we spent went directly toward reaching voters — yard signs, palm cards, and flyers printed by local Sioux Falls businesses, targeted digital outreach, and direct mail to high-turnout households. The rest covered the basics of running a legitimate campaign.
Every coordinator, every door-knocker, every volunteer showing up on a Saturday morning is here because they believe in this city. That's not an accident. That's the campaign we set out to build.
Because we ran lean, we have everything we need to finish strong. Every dollar left in this campaign goes straight to doors, neighborhoods, and voters between now and June 2nd.
Friends of Vince Danh.
Our campaign committee isn't just a legal name on a filing. It's a description of exactly who this is.
These are the people who showed up before the signs were printed, before the mailers went out, before anyone knew how this was going to go. They dropped literature in the rain. They lent their design, their photography, their words. They shared our message at their own dinner tables, in their own words. That kind of advocacy cannot be written as a check.
When my parents moved to Sioux Falls in 1993 and opened the first Vietnamese restaurant in town, they weren't thinking about politics. They were thinking about building something real, something lasting, something worth being proud of.
More than 120 families, neighbors, and small business owners looked at what we're building and said: we're in.
15 days. Here's what we need.
Election Day is June 2nd. The reports are filed. Now we run.
If you can spare a couple of hours, come walk with us. We're dropping literature in neighborhoods all across Sioux Falls and every door matters. Sign up here.
If you can't be in the field, tell someone. Text a friend who hasn't decided yet. Share this post. Personal conversations move people in ways no ad ever can.
And if you're able to give — any amount — every dollar between now and June 2nd helps us reach one more voter and knock one more door. You can donate here.
It's always been our city, and now is our moment. Let's rise together. ☀️
